Network Engineer – Sioux Falls, SD

Your role is to design, install, administer and optimize corporate network infrastructure to achieve and sustain high performance while ensuring security of communications and business applications. You are is also responsible for analyzing and resolving network hardware and configuration problems in a timely and accurate fashion.

Job Functions

Essential Functions:

  • Develop strategies for connectivity and provide ownership of implementing the infrastructure configurations required to support those strategies.
  • Oversee and maintain health of customer VPN connectivity.
  • Oversee and maintain health of telephony systems.
  • Physically install network components in a scalable, documented and organized manner.
  • Act as project lead in the review and implementation of network systems and telephony systems including conducting capacity planning as needed.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with business application stakeholders and operations staff to ensure availability, security, and scalability of network infrastructure to meet business demands.
  • Implement defined policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure network security.
  • Provide an escalation point for other members of the IT team for issues regarding network resources and connectivity issues; prioritize and respond to requests and issues as appropriate via ticketing system.
  • Plan and implement hardware, firmware and operating system upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.
  • Develop and maintain training materials and network inventory and configuration documentation.
  • Manage security solutions including firewalls and VPNs.
  • Manage all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, and UPSs.
  • Practice network asset management, including 3rd party support status, maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Monitor and test complete system performance and provide performance statistics and reports.Marginal Functions:
  • Assist in designing and implementing data center/server room security features, including HVAC control, environmental alarms, access restrictions etc.
  • Define and implement strategies for integrations with disparate operating environments and business partners/customers.
  • Recommend and execute modifications to network infrastructure in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  • Conduct research on hardware, software, and protocols in support of procurement and development efforts

Environmental Conditions:

  • The IT area is located in a wheelchair accessible building.
  • The office environment is active with high voice levels and interruptions that may challenge hearing and concentration.
  • Significant amounts of time may be required in data center areas with rapid movement of chilled air.

Position Qualification Requirements

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science or management information systems or a related discipline preferred.Experience Requirements:
  • Four years of work experience in a network administrative position responsible for managing multi-site networks and servers in a data center environment.
  • Strong experience with implementing and maintaining network hardware.
  • Specific experience in a Cisco and Palo Alto Networks environment a plus.
  • Strong experience with implementing and maintaining routing protocols.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability of current network hardware, protocols, and standards including VLANs, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, BGP, OSPF, HSRP, IP routing, and VPN (SSL/TLS and IPsec based).
  • Strong experience with implementing and maintaining VPNs with high availability expectations.
  • Strong experience with implementing and maintaining telephony systems.
  • Experience with virtualization and server-based computing platforms.
  • Experience with shared storage technologies including SAN (fibre channel and iSCSI), NAS, and NFS.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
